Why are all the other cool bags dangerous for your medicine?

No protection against freezing

Many medication cool bags often do not deliver what they promise, even if the product description says “2-8 °C” or “suitable for medication”. In most cases, these bags will freeze your medication below two degrees within a few minutes, which poses a significant risk. Multiple sclerosis medications such as Ocrevus, COPAXONE, Glatopa and Kesimpta specifically warn against freezing.

Other manufacturers’ test protocols attempt to keep the temperature above +2 °C by

  • setting the initial temperature of the ice packs warmer than -18 degrees
  • and/or the initial temperature of the medication above +5 degrees.
We have also read test reports from independent test institutes where the measurement interval was set to 1 measurement only every 30 minutes to prevent a measurement result below 2 degrees, as the temperature slipped below 2 degrees within the first 30 minutes.

However, these “tricks” have nothing to do with your practical everyday life, as you certainly don’t want to set your freezer to a warm -14 degrees and ruin all your other food in the process.

False cooling duration claims

Many of the cooler bags for medicines on the market are based on exaggerated claims about their cooling time.

These claims often do not take into account the effects of ambient temperature. Warmer conditions always lead to shorter cooling durations.

Example: Marketing claims of “24-hour cooling” or “24-hour rechargeable ice packs”:

  • Often this statement only denotes that a rechargeable ice pack stays cold for 24 hours up to 8 degrees, but not the medication in the cooler bag.
  • The 24 hours are usually only achieved because the medicine was previously frozen, and the cooling time was therefore artificially extended.
  • The cooling time is only achieved — if at all — at 20 degrees, for example, but not at an ambient temperature of 30 degrees.

Unfortunately, this lack of transparency puts patients at risk if they rely on the cooling duration indication even at hot temperatures. As a result, your medication gets too warm, and your treatment is jeopardized.

More sophisticated, less secure

Imagine yourself on a plane when, suddenly, a loud sound alerts you to the falling battery of your cool bag. What a shock for you and the passengers traveling with you!

This scenario is all too common with electrical cool bags! Travelers are tempted to buy them with the promise of long-lasting cooling, e.g. 12 hours. This battery performance is almost always misrepresented — and then everyone hears the alarm after e.g. 2–4 hours.

This way, you and your fellow travelers will certainly have an adventure vacation!

In addition, the cooler bag no longer works. Your medication is no longer sufficiently cooled.

Choose COOL *SAFE for a level of protection beyond mere claims!

Why do you need COOL*SAFE?

The difference between marketing claims and actual performance has become recurring, putting patients in significant trouble. It’s time to prioritise reliability over deceptive promises for your health and peace of mind.

Whether you use your cool bag as little as 15 minutes or for many hours, COOL*SAFE cool bags are a unique, reliable solution that ensures the safety of your medicines.

No overstated claims, no freezing

In our patient-oriented approach, we place great value on transparency.

Whether it’s the duration of cooling or protection against heat and freezing, you can rely on us to be transparent and steadfast throughout the entire process. To substantiate our claim, we have our cool bags repeatedly remeasured by TÜV. Our in-house laboratory also measures the cool bags according to TÜV standards.

All reports show that the recorded temperature measurements of the medicines in our cool bags never fall below +2°C.

Precise specification of the cooling time

We do not make any statements about long cooling durations without also providing precise information about the ambient temperature. There is no vague promise of 24 or 48 hours.

By providing precise cooling times, you as a patient can plan your journeys precisely and always feel safe.

Extension of the cooling duration

Regardless of whether you require an extremely long cooling duration because you need to cool your medication

  • on long flights
  • or you need 48 or 72 hours of cooling for outpatient treatment at home for example with infusions or a medicine pump

— You can extend the cooling duration of COOL*SAFE for many hours.

HERE you will find instructions on how to extend the cooling duration.

Why do not even doctors and pharmacists know about these dangers?

Lack of knowledge

One of the main factors contributing to this problem is that usually there is no training on this topic at universities. Greater awareness is needed that there are hardly any safe cool bags.

Doctors and pharmacists know that certain medicines should be kept in a cold chain or in high-quality cool bags because it is written on the package insert or the pharmaceutical representative tells them to do so. However, most doctors and pharmacists do not know that the greatest danger lies in the fact that the medicines get too cold in commercially available medicine cooler bags. And they also don't know that this happens within the first few minutes. They have no way of knowing that.

Instead, they are forced to rely on the marketing claims of cool bag manufacturers or long-established medical practice supply sellers.

It is precisely this lack of knowledge that leads doctors to recommend unsafe cooler bags and pharmacies to deliver medications in unsuitable courier cooler bags that can ultimately destroy your medication and hinder your recovery.

Lack of time

Healthcare professionals, including doctors and pharmacists, are often pressed for time during their patient consultations.

We have found through personal conversations with hundreds of doctors and pharmacies that both rely on each other:
The doctor has no time to educate the patient about cold chain compliance and sincerely believes that the pharmacy will advise the patient on this.
The pharmacy, in turn, also has no time and is sincerely convinced that the doctor had already advised the patient when prescribing the medication.

As a result, patients are often not given guidance on the finer points of safe medication storage or the necessity of a reliable medical cool bag.
